Lessons learned log

Throughout the duration of any project there will be lessons learned. This is often as a result of issues, risks and problems and the steps that were taken to resolve them.

These lessons can lead to improvements or opportunities for the future, the development of best practice, and the creation of new strategies.

In order to exploit the knowledge that has been created it is necessary to capture any lessons learned throughout the project in a Lessons Learned Log. All members of the project team, and where appropriate the Project Board, should contribute to the Lessons Learned Log and the Log should be held by the Project Manager. The Log should be accessible to others in the organisation so that it can be used as a planning tool for future projects and the same mistakes can be avoided.
